LOS ANGELES, California: Wildfires ravaging Los Angeles have destroyed countless homes, leaving celebrities and residents reeling.
Among the victims is This Is Us actor Milo Ventimiglia, whose Pacific Palisades home was reduced to ashes. Ventimiglia and his pregnant wife, Jarah Mariano, evacuated with their dog, watching helplessly as flames engulfed their house, including a newly installed crib. "There's a kind of shock moment where you are going, 'Oh, this is real,'" Ventimiglia said.
While walking through the charred remains, Ventimiglia reflected on life imitating art, recalling his This Is Us character, Jack Pearson, who perished in a house fire.
Other celebrities are also dealing with devastation. Mandy Moore narrowly avoided a total loss in the Eaton fire, but her husband's music studio and instruments were destroyed. Mel Gibson's home is "completely gone," confirmed his publicist, while Miles Teller and his wife, Keleigh, lost everything. Keleigh shared before-and-after photos on Instagram, urging people to evacuate and thanking first responders.
Billy Crystal and his wife lost their home of 45 years, and stars including Paris Hilton, Jeff Bridges, Cary Elwes, and Haley Joel Osment have confirmed similar losses. "I am so sorry for the losses... and I'm trying to etch in my mind the unique details of this lovely town that are gone forever," Osment wrote on Instagram.
Amid the destruction, the Walt Disney Company announced a $15 million donation to fire relief efforts, which will support the American Red Cross, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, and Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. "We are proud to provide assistance to this resilient and vibrant community in this moment of need," Disney CEO Bob Iger said.
Additionally, a FIREAID benefit concert is planned for January 30 at the Intuit Dome, home of the Los Angeles Clippers. Organized by heavyweights in the music industry and companies like Live Nation, the concert aims to raise funds for victims and support fire prevention efforts.
The fires have claimed at least 10 lives, destroyed thousands of structures, and left over 150,000 people under evacuation orders, marking one of the most devastating wildfire seasons in recent memory.
